Only 4% of Spanish SMEs have cloud activity

The cloud was born with a clear promise: to democratize access to advanced technology and allow any company to compete on equal terms. However, the reality is very different.

According to the Cloud Nation 2025 report, published by Aire, large companies account for 96% of public cloud use in Spain, while only 4% of SMEs have cloud activity.

The gap is not only economic. The report points to structural obstacles:

  • Lack of specialized technical talent
  • Complexity in security and regulatory compliance (GDPR, NIS2)
  • On-premise infrastructures still pending amortization
  • Difficulty in evaluating migrations and system dependencies

The challenge is not just migrating to the cloud, but doing so with a strategic approach. Because in an environment where agility, scalability, and resilience are key, being left out of the cloud can become a competitive disadvantage.

The question is no longer whether the cloud is necessary, but: How long can an SME afford not to adopt it?
